Effective July 1, 2022, Oklahoma became a Title Holding state. What that means is that if you have a lien on your vehicle the Oklahoma Title will be forwarded to your lienholder until you pay off the vehicle or decide to trade/sell your vehicle.

How much will it cost to transfer my new/used vehicle into my name?
Please call our office at 918-486-1188 in order to get an accurate quote. We will need the VIN, date of sale, price of vehicle, and if you have a useable plate to register with the vehicle.

Renewing your tag? What information do you need to renew your tag/decal.

  • Tag Number, Title Number of VIN#
  • Insurance information, i.e., company name, policy #, NAIC #, and policy holder.

How much will my tag cost?
Current statutory tag rates are as follows:

Age of vehicle:

  • 1 – 4 years –   Annual fee is $96.00 + $1.50 insurance verification fee
  • 5 – 8 years –   Annual fee is $86.00 + $1.50 insurance verification fee
  • 9 – 12 years –  Annual fee is $66.00 + $1.50 insurance verification fee
  • 13 – 16 years – Annual fee is 46.00 + $1.50 insurance verification fee
  • 17 or older –   Annual fee is 26.00 + $1.50 insurance verification fee

Additional fees include but are not limited to the following:

  • Penalties accrue at the rate of $1.00 per day beginning on the first day of the month following your 30 day grace period.
  • Credit/debit card convenience fees are charged at a rate of 2.35% of your total plus a $2.00 fee.

Are there cases where penalties may be waived?
Yes, active duty military can get their penalties waived if they were stationed out of state or out of country at the time of their tags expiring.

Do I need to keep my registration in my vehicle? How do I obtain a replacement if needed?
Yes. You must keep your current registration in your vehicle at all times. Replacement registrations can be obtained in our office during normal business hours.

How do I replace a lost or stolen decal or tag?
Bring your current insurance verification or registration.  A fee of $10.50 will be assessed to replace your decal/tag.

What is a black tag?
Owners of motor vehicles not in use at the time of registration may register their vehicle upon signing an Affidavit of Non-Use in Lieu of Liability Insurance.  Standard registration fees and penalties (if applicable) apply and a non-use (black) decal is issued.

What is a Family Transfer?
Pursuit to 68 O.S., Section 2103. An excise tax exemption applies to transfers of vehicle/boat/outboard motor ownership between husband and wife, or parent/step parent and child/step child.  When such transfers are made without consideration, i.e., purchase or exchange for anything of value, only the registered owner of the items may complete a Family Affidavit form.  These forms are available in our office. 

Duplicate Titles
If you’ve lost your title and need a replacement you can come to our office and to obtain a duplicate title.  Only the registered owner can apply for a duplicate title.  If the tag on the vehicle that you need the duplicate title for is not current, you must bring the tag current before a duplicate title can be issued.  Cost for duplicate titles is $11.00

Out of State Tag/Title
If you have recently moved to Oklahoma, you can register your vehicle(s) at our office.  The State of Oklahoma gives you thirty (30) days to register your vehicle(s) in Oklahoma once you have established residency.  To register your vehicle, the following is required:

  • Bring your out of state title or latest registration along with proof of Oklahoma insurance.
  • If your vehicle has a lien we will need the lienholder information to include name of lending institution and address.
  • A VIN inspection is required so please bring the vehicle to our office so that we can conduct the required inspection.

Are you purchasing or selling a vehicle?
If you are selling your vehicle you will sign the title over to the purchaser and have your signature notorized.  The purchaser has thirty (30) days to complete the transfer at a tag agency.  In accordance with Oklahoma law your tag must be removed from the vehicle before you turn over the vehicle to the purchaser.

If you have purchased a vehicle you have thirty (30) days from the notary date to register the vehicle and pay the required taxes.  Penalties are assessed for those who have gone past the thirty (30) day timeframe.  The following items are required when transferring the vehicle into your name:

  • Notarized title/MSO
  • Oklahoma insurance verification
  • Purchase agreement (required on new vehicles, optional on used vehicles)
  • Odometer statement (not necessary if filled out on the title or MSO)

What is a Notice of Transfer and how does it protect me?
A Notice of Transfer is a form that can be filled out on-line or at a tag agency and submitted in order to notify Service Oklahoma’s Motor Vehicle Division and law enforcement that you have sold your vehicle and to whom you have sold it to. This assists law enforcement to determine liability if the vehicle is involved in an accident, receives traffic violations or has toll violations, etc., a $10.00 fee is required.

Military Registrations/VA Benefits
In accordance with Oklahoma Statute Title 47, Section 1127, the following are entitled to a special armed forces annual registration rate of $26.00 + $1.50 insurance verification fee:

  • Actively serving reservists and actively serving members of the National Guard as confirmed by their presentation of a properly completed Armed Forces Affidavit, SOK form 779 
  • National Guard as confirmed by their presentation of a properly completed Armed Forces Affidavit.
  • Vehicles owned by an Oklahoma resident or spouse of an Oklahoma resident stationed out-of-state due to an official military assignment.
  • Vehicles owned by the spouse, who resides in Oklahoma, of an actively serving military service person serving in a foreign country. 

Armed Forces
A completed U.S. Armed Forces Affidavit (SOK Form 779) must be presented to the tag agency. 

  • The affidavit requires the signature of the active duty military service person and the signature of an officer for the organization to which the military service person is assigned.
  • When the actively serving military service person is serving in a foreign country, the spouse may sign the affidavit under penalties of perjury. In this instance, certification by an officer of the U.S. Armed Forces organization is not required
  • An Oklahoma resident stationed in another state due to an official military assignment may authorize his/her parents to register his/her vehicle(s) on their behalf. A completed Armed Services Affidavit, including an officer’s certification, is required.
  • As an alternative to an officer’s certification, a copy of the written orders confirming the service member, Guardsman, or Reservist is actively serving at the time of registration may be submitted and attached to the completed Armed Forces Affidavit.
  • A representative (as opposed to only a parent) may apply for registration on the service member’s behalf, by submitting the proper qualifying documentation.

Oklahoma Resident Armed Forces Personnel Stationed Out of State
Oklahoma resident military, or their spouse, stationed outside the state of Oklahoma due to official assignment, are exempt vehicle registration penalties up to sixty (60) days after such assignment ends.  A properly completed U.S. Forces Affidavit (Form 779, which includes  the Delinquent Vehicle Registration Penalty Provision is required to waive the penalty.)

Disabled Veterans
In accordance with Oklahoma State Statute Title 47, Section 1135.2) Veterans with at least 50% service connected disability, as certified by either the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or the Armed Forces of the United States, have the option of receiving a regular plate, or special DAV plat, at a reduced rate of $5.00

Special Disabled American Veterans license plates, in two (2) designs, are available through the Accounting Section of the Motor Vehicle Division.

  1. DAV plate with the DAV emblem in the center and “Disabled American Veteran” across the bottom.
  2. DAV plate displaying the international accessibility symbol to the left of the DAV emblem. The veteran must have a current DPS parking placard.

These special plates may be renewed by a motor license operator. 

Those veterans not desiring the DAV plate may initially register, as well as renew, up to two (2) vehicles, with a rated carrying capacity of one (1) ton or less, at any motor license agency.

In all instances, other than registration by a surviving spouse, the eligible veteran must be listed on the title as the owner.  If not listed, a signed statement from the veteran must be submitted, declaring that he/she is an owner and/or operator of the vehicle.

A reduced licensing charge card (Form 599) or letter from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or from the Armed Forces of the United States, or a copy of the retirement orders listing at least 50% disability, must be presented upon initial registration, regardless of which plate the disabled American veteran chooses.  In their absence, an OTC 100% DAV sales tax exemption permit may be accepted.

The surviving spouse of a deceased disabled veteran may register one (1) vehicle at the reduced DAV rate, provided he or she has not remarried, or the remarriage has been terminated by death, divorce or annulment.

Disabled Veteran Excise Tax Exemption
A vehicle excise tax exemption applies to vehicles purchased on or after 7/1/05 for honorably discharged veterans of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces or Oklahoma National Guard who are in receipt of compensation at the one hundred per cent (100%) rate for a permanent disability sustained through military action or accident resulting from disease contracted while in active service, as certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. 

  • The exemption is allowed on only one (1) vehicle per consecutive three (3) year period by any single qualifying veteran. The computation is applied purchase date to purchase date of the two (2) vehicles 
  • This exemption applies to vehicles only, including all-terrain vehicles, utility vehicles and off-road motorcycles. It does not apply to boats/outboard motors or manufactured homes. 
  • This excise tax exemption does not apply to widows of veterans.

Qualifying Criteria
To qualify for the 100% DAV vehicle excise tax exemption:

  • The qualifying veteran must be listed on the title as an owner of the vehicle. Additional owners may be also be present.

Qualifying Documentation
One (1) of the following two (2) types of documentation must be presented and a copy attached to the title work:

  • A letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs, certifying the veteran is receiving compensation at the 100% rate.
  • An OTC Sales Tax Exemption Permit, notating “Sales Tax Exemption: 100% Disabled Veteran” at the top of the form. Wallet size versions of these OTC Sales Tax Exemption Permits are also acceptable.
